So, I have a week of professional work at The Vampire Diaries under my belt, it's been a really great experience so far.

The first week was a lot of running errands, picking up supplies at Sam Flax and organizing things, because the Art Dept. room was a bit of a mess from last year. I'm doing some graphic work for the show also, which I'm really happy about. Today, I designed the chairback graphic for season 2 and last week, I threw together a poster for the Art Dept. door using an old Vampire movie poster I found:

The other day, I went out to a site (an old house in Covington, Ga) and helped the art director measure the rooms, doors, fireplaces, moldings, etc. so they can draft everything up and construct a replica of the house for the show. It's crazy to know that they're going to build an exact replica of the house interior in about 2 weeks time. It's really exciting being around people who have worked on so many shows and movies that I've seen.

Everything isn't as glamorous as it sounds, though, haha. I do take out the trash at the end of the day, but everybody has to start somewhere, right? And I think I'm proving my skills to everybody in the office.

This is pretty funny: The building where all of the production and offices are is the same building where the Mystic Falls High school set is. One minute, you're walking down a hallway of offices, and the next minute, you're walking down the hallway of a school. There's even a cafeteria and a trophy case. It's pretty bizarre.

Just thought I'd document my first week of being in "the real world" and I hope everybody is doing great!

I happened to look up 'Kari On, Regardless' the other day and it turns out there's a burlesque woman with the name... Kari Von Regardless... so needless to say, I scratched that idea. I think 'Kari On! Design' works better anyway. I was thinking about the phrase, 'carry on' and the way people move their hands when they say it... motioning to move forward and whatnot. I thought I could use little hand icons as a design elements in my resume/business card/website/stationary/etc... For the actual logo, I would just stick with type.

I was thinking of design names for myself other than just "Kari Lennox Design," because I really want to have something more memorable than that. So, I was thinking about phrases and things people say when interacting with each other...but I want the name to have a southern, sweet quality, I think. Here's a few of the names:

'Much Obliged' Design
'Cream and Sugar' Design or 'Cream + Sugar' Design

I really like Cream and Sugar Design... All I could find online with the name was a bakery:

I Google Street Viewed the entrance of the center and I realized you it's kind of in the middle of nowhere.

It would be very easy to miss this small directional sign
(Which you can see in the screen grab above^)

Main Entrance:

The entrance sign would be more noticeable if it stood alone in the yard or if it were above the gate.

As you can see, from the photos below, the signage within the center lacks continuity. There are multiple fonts and graphic styles being used.

Being this is a first impression, what information
needs to be conveyed to the “user”?

There needs to be an entrance sign and also a series of directional signs that can be easily read and are similar in style. People go to the center to walk around and view/learn about the animals residing there, so they need to know where to go/where they are and they need to know what they’re looking at.

Observe the existing signage or lack there of and
what problems might exist with the current signage.

There needs to be a consistency in the signage. The graphics on the train and various signs around the center are totally different from the logo. A variety of fonts are currently used as well.

Create a rough map/diagram and note where the signage
could be improved or implemented in the exterior area.

Directional Billboard.
Larger Entrance sign separate from the gate.

Go through the same evaluation in the main entrance
and then identify secondary interior signage needs.

Directional signs which are consistent in style.

Make a list and a rough diagram of what signage
needs to be designed and where it will go.

The target audience of the Kangaroo Conservation Center (KCC) are families with children, so I want the look and feel to be colorful and playful. I want to utilize simple shapes and bright colors, which attract children... Some 3D aspect to represent the kangaroo (It's hop, tail, pouch, etc.)... Icons/information graphics for the Center's signage and map... And a distressed quality to represent the Australian outback and nature.

Iron Man Poster Concepts

For the 1st concept, I was thinking about the scene in the film where Robert Downey is held hostage and drafting the iron man suit on separate sheets of paper to be discrete, but when all the sheets are placed on top of one another, you can see the final product. Focusing on the technical aspect of the Iron Man suit. I'm thinking about maybe putting some metal texture in the background.

For the 2nd poster, I was just playing around with making a logo. Not sure about it... a little too cartoonie I think...

The 3rd one I just threw together in two seconds just playing around...The Iron Man is the I... It looks like the title is Ron, Man though haha

I'm leaning towards the first idea.
